In 2009, smartphones were transforming everyday life, social media was creating new industries, and digital businesses were challenging established markets. It was during this period of change that Deborah Collier presented the first Brilliance Award.
Eighteen years later, artificial intelligence is transforming the digital landscape again. Images, content and brand identities can now be replicated and distributed worldwide with unprecedented ease. For corporations, the challenge is no longer simply building a recognizable brand but protecting its authenticity in an increasingly complex digital environment.
Against this backdrop, the Digital Skills Authority (DSA) has secured trademark protection for the primary Brilliance Awards logo across 30 countries and transitioned its historical Heritage and Legacy Collections to blockchain-secured award credentials. The milestones coincide with DSA’s tenth anniversary.
Protecting Brand Integrity in the AI Era
A strong brand requires more than visibility. In an era of AI-generated content and sophisticated digital imitation, businesses need distinctive identities, enforceable intellectual property rights and confidence in the authenticity of the organizations they engage with.
The Brilliance Awards identity was developed through a deliberate creative process. In 2023, Deborah Collier brought together two visual elements long associated with the organization – a brain and a lightbulb – into a unified concept. DSA’s lead multimedia designer developed the final emblem under her creative and brand direction, establishing a distinctive identity for the awards.
That logo is now registered across all 27 European Union member states, Argentina, Mexico and Switzerland. Together, these markets represent approximately 640 million people, more than 40 million businesses and US$24.7 trillion in combined annual GDP.
The registrations strengthen DSA’s legal ability to challenge imitation, misuse and misleading associations within the protected jurisdictions. They also reinforce confidence among businesses, recipients and the public that they are engaging with the authentic, official Brilliance Awards from the Digital Skills Authority.
Preserving Eighteen Years of Achievement
The Brilliance Awards has evolved alongside the digital economy, recognizing exceptional achievement through successive waves of technological innovation and business transformation.
The Heritage Collection (2009-2015) captures the rise of social media, smartphones and mobile commerce. The Legacy Collection (2016-2025) reflects the expansion of digital platforms, cloud computing, automation and artificial intelligence.
Through these periods, recognized achievements have been associated with organizations including Instagram, Uber, Volkswagen, IKEA, PepsiCo, John Lewis, Schneider Electric, Warner Bros. and Swiggy.
DSA has now transitioned both collections to blockchain-secured credentials, supporting the long-term preservation, accessibility and verification of historical awards.
For recipients, recognition can mark a defining career achievement, a business breakthrough or years of exceptional teamwork. Maintaining a verifiable record ensures those accomplishments remain accessible as technologies and organizations evolve.
The collections are available through the Winners Directory, Heritage Collection and Legacy Collection.
A New International Chapter
The official Brilliance Awards will expand across nine global regions in 2027, with 22 categories per region recognizing exceptional leadership, professional achievement, innovation, creativity and organizational excellence.
The program includes a US pre-event in January 2027 and a major North American celebration in September. Regional winners will qualify for Brilliance Awards – Elite Honours 2028, culminating in a Paris gala presenting six global honors.
Deborah Collier, Founder and President of the Digital Skills Authority, commented:
“I’m proud to lead the Digital Skills Authority’s global IP expansion, protecting the Brilliance Awards brands across 30 countries. Equally important is preserving our Heritage and Legacy Collections through blockchain, honoring past achievements and inspiring future innovation, digital economic growth and global productivity.”
As artificial intelligence reshapes how businesses communicate and compete, protecting authentic identities and verifiable achievements becomes increasingly important. For DSA, the trademark registrations and blockchain-secured collections establish a stronger foundation for the next generation of international recognition.
Innovation. Creativity. Intelligence.
